AHA - A National Service Learning-Leader School
The Corporation for National Service has reported that the Academy of the Holy Angels has been selected as a National Service-learning Leader School. Holy Angels is one of only 66 schools (32 of which are high schools) in the United States named National Service-Learning Leader Schools for excellence in service-learning. The Academy was one of seven New Jersey Schools, five of which were high schools. Holy Angels is the only Catholic High School from New Jersey to be named a state and national winner, and one of only two Catholic schools nationwide.
Harris Wofford, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National Service, wrote that "through a rigorous state and national review process, your portfolio application has been found to meet the high standards of this Presidential recognition program. Service Learning-Leader schools are not only improving teaching and learning, but they're helping shape better citizens. These young people are learning early the importance of giving back to their community."
This Presidential Award recognizes outstanding schools that combine academics with community service in a way that benefits students, teaches civic responsibility, and strengthens communities. School teams are invited to Washington in June to receive the award, attend a congressional reception, and receive three days of training.
