AHA President Melinda Hanlon

Our President

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the Academy of the Holy Angels! As you explore our website, I trust you will begin to gain a sense of our community of learners. As the oldest Catholic college preparatory school for women in Bergen County, we continue the work begun by Sister Nonna Dunphy when she founded our beloved school in Fort Lee. As relevant today as it was in 1879 is the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame to transform the world through education. Today more than ever at AHA, we seek to provide our students with a safe learning environment, where our Catholic faith and the SSND commitment to the integrity of all of God’s creation remain at the core of our programs. Just as the word of God is living and active, so is our philosophy of education. We continuously seek to improve and evolve our programs and facilities to provide our Angels with a high school experience characterized by academic excellence, faith development, moral integrity and service to others. These are the hallmarks of an AHA education.

This year offers great promise for our students and faculty as we embark on a new chapter in the Academy’s rich history with the completion of Kelleher Hall. These beautiful new state-of-the-art learning spaces include two Art studios, a MAC lab, two multi-purpose classrooms and the SSND Heritage Center where our Religious Studies classes and Campus Ministry will learn and work alongside the archives from the SSNDs and both of the Academy’s campuses. Our new STREAM lab located in the main school building will be completed in the early fall.

An alumna described Holy Angels as a place where she discovered that “God has plans for our lives that are greater than we can ever imagine.” The accomplishments of our recent graduates certainly reflect her words. The Class of 2017 contributed 26,500 hours of service during their four years at AHA and earned more than 19 million dollars in scholarships as they head off to many of our nation’s top tier universities and colleges.

The best way to learn more about the Angels advantage is to visit our school. I invite you to join us at one of our open houses and be sure to sign up for an "Angel for a Day" visit. We believe that women leaders start here at Holy Angels and look forward to partnering with you as you discover the difference the AHA experience can make in your life.
