AElizabeth Garcia Signs Letter of Intent to Play Basketball at University of Hartford

Demarest, NJ: Elizabeth Garcia, a Bergenfield resident and senior at the Academy of the Holy Angels, has officially signed her letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Hartford.

Garcia is a highly sought-after athlete, as she is both a stand-out basketball player and a state champion in track. Her honors include being named State Group Champion in the triple jump, State Sectional Champion in the 100m hurdles, and Most Valuable Athlete for 2016. Her accomplishments as a basketball player include being named First Team All-Division in 2015 and 2016 and being recognized as Most Valuable Player. Garcia has competed in track as far away as Australia. In her free time, she teaches basketball basics to children in the Basketball City program.

This year, she is captain of the AHA Varsity Basketball Team. Athletic Director Patti Gorsuch noted that Garcia, who plays center/forward, is currently on track to hit 1,000 points this year.

Elizabeth’s mother, Wanda Garcia, commented that her daughter and son, Andrew, who plays basketball at Stony Brook University, learned from each other, developing their skills while playing ball together. She expressed her delight that, with her daughter at University of Hartford, she would be easily able to attend her games.

Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts and athletics. Our goal is to provide each girl with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically, by offering a first –rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity and giving service to others.
