AHA Announces One Semi-Finalist, Three Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program

DEMAREST, NJ — Jennifer Moran, Principal of Academy of the Holy Angels announced today that AHA senior Michelle Lu of Paramus, NJ has been named a semi-finalist in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship program. She will continue in the competition to be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. 

Moran also announced that three AHA seniors,  Stephanie M. Albert of Tappan, NY, Aine Doyle of Pearl River, NY, and Phoebe J. Ozuah of Chestnut Ridge, NY, have been named Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.   A Letter of Commendation from AHA and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by Principal Moran to these scholastically talented seniors. Commended students place in the top 5% of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  However, they will not continue in the 2016 competition for the National Merit Scholarship Awards.

In other news celebrating academic excellence, Moran announced Sabrina Maciariello of Edgewater, NJ has been selected as a National Hispanic Scholar.  This recognition is given to Hispanic and Latino students who score among the top 2.5% of test takers in their region.
