AHA Art Club Hosts Fundraiser for Tomorrow's Children Foundation
December 2013
The Holy Angels Art Club recently hosted a fundraiser for the benefit of the creative arts therapy program at the Tomorrow's Children Foundation (TCF). TCF operates out of Hackensack University Medical Center and supports children suffering with cancer and blood disorders. The Art Club Postcard and Bake Sale, held on December 16th, featured 183 miniature works of art created by students and faculty, as well as baked holiday treats. A total of $606 was raised which was used to purchase art supplies for TCF. Additional art kits and toys were received from private donations. On January 17th, the Art Club’s Executive Board delivered the check and supplies to TCF and was invited to visit with administrators there. They toured the art studios and clinical facility, met with the child specialist, Administrative Director Ms. Sue Garbe, and learned about art therapy in the hospital setting from the Art Therapist Ms. Janice Rose.
AHA’s Art club has over 35 active members and is moderated by faculty member Ms. Christine Wraga. She said the club organized the sale in the spirit of “artists helping artists.” An integral component of the Holy Angels philosophy is the moral responsibility to use ones gifts in the service of others; this was just one of many ways in which the Holy Angels community has lived out that mandate.
