AHA Artists ‘Re-gift’ with Unconventional Flair

Demarest, NJ: Kathryn Biskup from the Academy of the Holy Angels recently delivered multiple recyclable materials, including paper, cardboard, and ribbon, to the Franciscan Sisters in Tenafly. Their reaction to this act of “re-gifting” was one of sheer delight.

Students from Biskup’s Art for the Community group had already transformed these basic household materials into an artsy Christmas wreath. These young artists also painted angel sculptures and tiny boxes they later filled with heart-shaped ornaments.

“I dropped off the holiday art today and the sisters were very excited about displaying the wreath, two angel sculptures, and boxes with ornaments,” Biskup reported.

Art for the Community meets at AHA once a month during the school’s activity period. The students will be working their magic again in the near future.

“We will also be making some decorations for the sisters for Easter and will send out artwork to be distributed to nursing homes and hospitals at the end of the year,” Biskup added.

Since 1879, thousands of women have passed through the portals of Academy of the Holy Angels high school, the oldest private girls’ school in New Jersey. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts and athletics. Our goal is to provide each girl with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically, by offering a first –rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity and giving service to others.
