AHA Celebrates Students’ Diverse Cultures & Traditions

Demarest, NJ: Cultures from around the globe were the focus of attention at International Night. This annual celebration at the Academy of the Holy Angels drew an enthusiastic crowd as students shared food, music, and fashion from their diverse backgrounds.

Students come to AHA from near and far. In recent years, students have traveled from China, South Korea, Brazil, Trinidad, and Great Britain to attend the school. The International Students Club helps Angels from abroad become acclimated to life at the Academy.

AHA also invites students to participate in the school’s Asian Cultural Society, the Black and Hispanic Cultural Society, and clubs that promote the Japanese, French, and Italian cultures.

Established by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, but the school continues to extend a warm welcome to students from a broad spectrum of faiths.

At International Night, the greater school community has an opportunity to learn more about the students’ many cultures, and is able to explore the world without leaving Demarest.

Since 1879, thousands of women have passed through the portals of Academy of the Holy Angels high school, the oldest private girls’ school in New Jersey. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts and athletics. Our goal is to provide each girl with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically, by offering a first –rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity and giving service to others.
