AHA Golfer Wins Tournament
May, 2015
The Academy of the Holy Angels Golf Team finished eighth in the state at The New Jersey State Golf Championship Tournament held on May 21st at Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman, NJ. Freshman Kelly Sim, who is from Edgewater, won the individual state title shooting a two under par round of 70. She is the second freshman in the tournament’s 15 year history to win the Girl’s State Golf Championship. Sim, who was named Female Athlete of the Week by The Bergen Record in April, came from behind and parred a three foot putt on the 18th hole. She credits mental discipline for her winning record noting, “I’ve learned to forget my mistakes and remember the good things I’ve done. Pressure isn’t real because you can control how to handle each situation.” Coach Patrick Dunne praised Kelly’s skills and described her as an amazing player. He said, “Her work ethic and her focus on the course make her an incredible player and competitor.” Pictured left to right are Coach Patrick Dunne, Paige Sunden (Old Tappan), Kelly Sim (Edgewater), Sandrine Yesilian (Edgewater), Sabrina Romano (Upper Saddle River) and Emily Yankovich (Ramsey)
