DEMAREST, NJ — Academy of Holy Angels senior Michelle Lu has been named a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program by demonstrating, through distinguished performance, high potential for future academic accomplishment. Michelle is one of just 15,000 students in the United States to achieve this recognition, out of over 1.5 million entrants!

By graduation day Michelle will have already taken 10 Advanced Placement courses and exams. In 2015 she was named an AP Scholar with Honor for passing 4 AP exams. It seems Michelle does all things well, and with a grace and positive attitude that impresses everyone, from her teachers at Holy Angels to world renowned flutist Sir James Galway, whom Michelle played next to in a concert at Carnegie Hall. A Level 3 National Winner in the 2015 National French exam, Captain of the AHA Debate Team, and President of Project Greenhouse, Michelle was also selected to the prestigious Governors School in Engineering and Technology, where she discovered her life’s calling: to be an environmental lawyer.

Michelle recently visited Professor David Wilcove of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs at Princeton University, whose book No Way Home was an inspiration to her. A counselor at Family Promise of Bergen County Youth Council for the Homeless, and a teacher assistant at the Bergen Chinese School for two years, Michelle is all about making a difference in the world around her, and she says she is forever grateful for the many opportunities she has received at AHA.
All of us at Holy Angels wish Michelle the very best as she seeks admission to her dream college, Princeton.
