AHA Students Stand Up Against Poverty
October 2013
Students at the Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest observed the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17th in a variety of ways. AHA’s social justice club, Just Angels, invited students and staff to take a pledge to “Stand Up Against Poverty” and to sign a letter to President Obama urging him to work with Congress on a plan to end hunger in the United States and abroad. AHA’s Diversity Club, whose mission has a particular emphasis on caring for those left out on the margins in society, and AHA’s Outreach Club collected supplies of the nutrition supplement Ensure which was donated to Buddies of NJ, a non-profit organization offering support for people affected by HIV/AIDS. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was established by the United Nations in 1993 to promote awareness and action towards ending poverty around the world.
