AHA Vocalist to Perform at Carnegie Hall

Demarest, NJ: Hanora Chapman, a sophomore at the Academy of the Holy Angels, has been accepted to the 2017 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. This elite group of international vocalists will present a concert at the famed New York City venue on February 5. Hanora will be featured as first alto with the Honors Women’s Choir under the direction of Dr. Tim Seelig, conductor.

Hanora enjoys sharing her musical talents. The Ramsey resident is a member of the AHA Choir and Vocal Ensemble, and sings with Music Makers, the group that performs at school-based liturgies. She is also part of the Festival Youth Chorus with the New Jersey Choral Society.

AHA Chorus teacher Lisa Marciano recommended Hanora for the Honors Performance Series, and the talented vocalist accepted the challenge with aplomb. Hanora submitted a recording of herself singing “Per La Gloria D’adoravi” by Giovanna Battista Bonaccini, her performance resume, and an application. The selection committee was duly impressed.

“When I found out I was selected, I was overcome with joy,” Hanora said. “As soon as I found out, I immediately called my mom and all of my friends cheered and shared my excitement with me. The greatest feeling in the world is knowing that all of your hard work paid off.”

Although she will be singing alto one at Carnegie Hall, Hanora can also sing parts written for a soprano or mezzo soprano.

“I prefer performing classical music,” she noted. “I am a classically trained singer, and I enjoy singing arias.”

Hanora explained that she has been interested in vocal performance since she was in middle school, and plans to further her studies.“I really love music. I definitely want to study and learn more in college,” she added.
