DEMAREST, NJ While many private and parochial schools throughout the nation have seen student enrollment dramatically decline in the past decade, Academy of the Holy Angels (AHA) has enjoyed a surge in incoming freshmen.  This fall, a record number of ninth graders…176…are enrolled. That’s a 26% spike over the 2014-2015 school year.Total school enrollment has soared to over 600 Angels, the largest student body in AHA’s recent history, especially noteworthy as AHA prepares to celebrate its’ 50th year on the Demarest campus. (AHA was founded in Fort Lee, NJ in 1879). AHA administrators have welcomed this expanded Angel community by renovating space in a converted convent building that once housed offices . Spanking new multi-media classrooms, newly appointed with handsome desk furniture, are designed to create an enhanced learning environment. The recently expanded Technology Center, state-of-the-art turf field, and solar-powered greenhouse help to further enhance the student experience. The school has added new English, History, Foreign Language, and Math faculty to accommodate the expanding student body while maintaining its 11:1 student/faculty ratio.

Jennifer Moran,  Principal of Academy of the Holy Angels, believes many parents and students are clearly recognizing the added value of an AHA education.  “With our holistic approach,  we offer girls a complete education…a love of learning, a  commitment to academic excellence, service to others, balanced with enriching experiences in the arts and athletics.    Within our supportive, single- sex environment,  we encourage our students to fearlessly accept new, evolving academic challenges, the key to reaching their full potential.”

Adds Michele Sovak, AHA’s Director of Admission, “the Class of 2019 is a group of high-achievers, with more than two-thirds of the students pursuing Honors and High Honors programs, and the balance of the girls tackling a rigorous college preparatory track.”  It’s a diverse group, too.   Several international students are part of the student body, from as far as Britain, Brazil,  China and Korea.

For more than 136 years, the Academy of the Holy Angels, founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame,  has been the premier all- girls’  private college preparatory high school in Bergen County. Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and National Service Learning Leader School, AHA helps empower young women to lead in academics, the arts, athletics, spirituality and service.
