AHA’s First Online Information Session Draws Engaged Participants

Demarest, NJ: Sixty-one guests participated in the Academy of the Holy Angels’ first webinar, “Virtually Everything You Need to Know about AHA.” Prospective Angels and their families learned how AHA educates women who are ready to lead and succeed in today’s global economy, and had many of their questions answered – all from the comfort of their own homes.

AHA Director of Admissions Michèle McGovern and Admissions Associate Jennifer Bullis organized this live virtual session after COVID-19 social distancing measures meant a traditional AHA Open House would not be an option this spring. McGovern and Bullis recruited key personnel, who provided overviews of AHA’s award-winning curriculum, extensive electives, service opportunities, study abroad options, athletic offerings, and personalized college/academic counseling resources.

Principal Jean Miller presented an overview and facts about Holy Angels’ response to COVID-19. Academic Dean Francesca Tambone-Puzio discussed AHA’s nationally recognized STREAM curriculum that incorporates science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and mathematics.

Webinar participants learned about the Academy’s current distance learning program, during which students use their school-issued laptops to “attend” classes in real time.

Participants whose questions could not be answered during the webinar were encouraged to email staff and faculty members for additional details.

Mrs. Miller also invited everyone who is interested in attending Holy Angels to plan an in-person visit to the Demarest campus when the pandemic ends.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
