Angels Bring Christmas Cheer to Philadelphia

Demarest, NJ: Students from the Academy of the Holy Angels recently traveled to Saint Peter the Apostle School in Philadelphia to mark Saint Nicholas Day.

Sister Rose Federicci, principal of Saint Peter’s, set the tone for the day by wearing Christmas attire from head to toe. Members of the AHA Student Council Executive Board enhanced the festive atmosphere as they assisted their counterparts in pre-K through Grade 8 with various activities.

AHA students who joined in the celebration included Stephanie Delgado of Union City, Sophia Ortiz of Haworth, Katherine Samuels of Park Ridge, Danielle Cahill of Ridgefield, Jessica Danylchuk of Mahwah, Victoria Ezgilioglu of New Milford, Landzie Lindor of New City (NY), Amanda Hernandez of Northvale, Mariah Viman of Englewood Cliffs, Christina McCarthy of Bogota, and Angelica Piegari of Clifton.

AHA Director of Campus Ministry/SSND Associate Kathy Sylvester and AHA Campus Minister Maryanne Miloscia served as chaperones.

During their visit, the Angels helped the younger students decorate gingerbread cookies and visited every classroom to share candy canes and cards that explain the legend of this mint-flavored holiday candy.

As the Angels prepared to leave Philadelphia, the Saint Peter’s students sent them off with the Blessing of Mother Theresa Gerhardinger, foundress of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

This visit was part of the shared ministry between the two schools. In May, AHA will host a field day for students from Saint Peter’s. Next summer, a group of AHA volunteers will again travel to Philadelphia to help S. Rose prepare for the new academic year.

Since 1879, thousands of women have passed through the portals of Academy of the Holy Angels high school, the oldest private girls’ school in New Jersey. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts and athletics. Our goal is to provide each girl with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically, by offering a first –rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity and giving service to others.
