Angels Helping Angels
June 2014
Before leaving on their summer vacation, art students from the Academy of the Holy Angels did some very important artistic restoration work for the sisters at Our Lady of the Angels Convent in Tenafly. They painstakingly refurbished a statue of the Blessed Mother which had been in great need of cleaning and refinishing. Their Art teacher, Ms. Kathryn Biskup was thrilled to be able to offer her students’ services to this endeavor. According to Sister Patricia Coyle, the students did a very professional job of refurbishing the statue which, she reported, “looks better than new.” The convent, run by the Franciscan Order, is home to 50 sisters, 25 of whom are in the infirmary. Their main mission is to pray for the needs of others. S. Patricia noted that “having our statues and other religious articles so attractive makes praying more meaningful.” She also promised that the sisters would include Holy Angels in their prayers in gratitude for their service to them. The statue is now proudly at the entrance to their chapel.

Pictured standing with the statue are AHA students: Na Young Lee (Norwood), Jasmine Espejo (Dumont) and Jessica Cooperman (Tappan, NY)
