Chapman & Guyre Represent AHA at All-County Choir Concert

Demarest, NJ: Academy of the Holy Angels seniors Hanora Chapman of Ramsey and Maria Guyre of River Vale were the only Catholic high school students chosen to sing at Bergen County’s select All County Band and Choir Concert. This event, which was produced by the Music Educators of Bergen County, Inc., was held at Paramus High School on January 13th.

Each year, hundreds of students from Bergen County’s many high schools audition for this competitive event, and Guyre and Chapman quickly proved themselves as vocalists who represent a high level of musical excellence. Both students work with AHA Choral Director Lisa Marciano, and are part of the AHA Concert Choir and the AHA Vocal Ensemble, an a cappella group. Chapman is currently sharing the choir manager’s duties with Timea Papp of Hawthorne.

“Intensive rehearsals started only on Wednesday, January 9th, and they rehearsed for hours to prepare a concert by January 13th,” Marciano explained. “This is Hanora's third year and Maria's second, and unfortunately their last because they are seniors.”

In 2018, Guyre, Chapman, and their fellow Angels Yasmine Carter-McTavish and Leah Sanchez, also had the distinction of being the only Catholic high school students who successfully auditioned for the All-County Choir.

Next month, Guyre, Chapman, and AHA junior Leah Sanchez of Upper Saddle River will be part of the elite Carnegie Hall High School Honors Performance Series, an international choir that presents a concert at the world-renowned venue after just four days of intensive rehearsals.

This is the third consecutive year Chapman has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. Sanchez and Guyre will be singing with the international group for the first time.

Marciano described Sanchez, Guyre, and Chapman as “some of the most dedicated and talented students that I have ever had the pleasure of teaching.”

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
