Holy Angels Junior Named Top RIFE Volunteer

Demarest, NJ: Tara McDonald, a junior at the Academy of the Holy Angels, has been named Ramsey Is for Everyone’s 2018 Volunteer of the Year. McDonald devotes a significant amount of time and energy to community service in her hometown of Ramsey, and is actively engaged as a sports coach and social event planner for RIFE.

RIFE strives to provide an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for citizens with disabilities, and promotes a physically accessible environment that allows all borough residents to conduct everyday activities. (Source: ri4e.org.)

This year’s honoree has been a head coach and volunteer with the organization since she was in eighth grade. She helps coordinate all of the group’s social events, including holiday parties, karaoke and bingo nights, and the annual gala.

Her work as a coach for the soccer, basketball, and softball programs, is particularly enjoyable for McDonald.

“I found one-on-one coaching and working with the special needs children and seeing them improve on their skill and confidence is the most rewarding, and makes it all worthwhile to me,” she explained.

“When I got the letter saying I won this award, I was overwhelmed with happiness and was so grateful to receive it,” she added.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
