Demarest, NJ —  The Academy of the Holy Angels invites you to their production of Children of Eden. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz; Book by John Caird.  Schwartz’s better known productions such as Wicked, Godspell and Pippin received substantial critical acclaim but when asked which musical was he favorite, he responded, "I think the work of which I am most proud is Children of Eden.” Written prior to Wicked it shares many of the same themes as the Tony Award winning musical. The concepts of family, making choices, forgiveness, letting go and the obvious good and evil that live within all of us take center stage, not the inherently religious storyline. Taking inspiration from the first 9 books of Genesis, this musical invites the audience to take a journey through multiple generations of families and how their relationships remain the common thread that unites us all.

The production will feature students from all over Bergen and Rockland counties, drawing boys from and St. Joseph’s Regional HS (Montvale) as well as Ft. Lee and Pearl River High Schools.  Many of the students are returning to the AHA stage from last year’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone, which was honored with several Paper Mill and Metropolitan High School Theater Award nominations including one for Nick Berninger (St. Joseph’s Regional HS) who won the Metro Award for Best Comic Performance as Aldolfo.  Children of Eden is another step forward in the incredible Performing Arts Department of Holy Angels, reuniting the creative team of Artisic Director Katie McSherry, Musical Director George Croom, and Choreographer Ariane Ryan, all of whom received recognition from both Award committees.

Performances are scheduled for March 11 and 12 at 7:30 and March 13 at 2:00 at the Academy of the Holy Angels, 315 Hillside Ave. Demarest NJ.  Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased at www.showtix4U.com or at the door.  All seats are reserved.

For  more than 136 years, the Academy of the Holy Angels, sponsored by  The School Sisters of Notre Dame, has been educating  young women from all religious backgrounds in a rigorous, college-preparatory program.  Located on a college-like campus, AHA is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and a National  Service Learning Leader School that empowers young women to lead in academics,  arts,  athletics, spirituality, and service.  For more information, visit www.holyangels.org.
