Holy Angels Receives Nominations for Paper Mill Awards

Demarest, NJ:Katie Collins, chair of the Academy of the Holy Angels Music and Theater departments, has announced that AHA’s production of “Once upon a Mattress” has been nominated for four Paper Mill Rising Star Awards.

AHA was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Chorus; Outstanding Performance in a Featured Role, Marissa Dellapi as the Jester; Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Male, Luke Berninger as Sir Harry; and Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Female, Ronnie LeHane as Lady Larkin.

Holy Angels also received Honorable Mention for Outstanding Overall Production; Outstanding Director, Katie Collins; and Outstanding Choreography, Ariane Ryan.

Modeled after the Tony Awards, the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards were established in 1996 to acknowledge achievements in high school musical theater. Each year, students and faculty from New Jersey high schools compete for recognition in performance, design, direction, choreography, technical production, and overall excellence. Some 100 student productions are evaluated by theater arts educators, theater professionals, performing artists, and designers.

Awards are presented on the stage of the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.

The Paper Mill Playhouse also offers four $1,000 awards to outstanding students who plan to pursue theater or technical theater in college. A fifth $1,000 award is presented in memory of Rising Star Nominee Douglas Michael Krueger.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
