Music Resonates at the Academy of the Holy Angels

Demarest, NJ: March is Music in Our Schools Month® -- and “Random Acts of Music” and “Mini Morning Musicales” have been occurring on cue at the Academy of the Holy Angels. The AHA Handbell Choir officially rang in this annual celebration, which was quickly followed by other pop-up performances.

June Chung of Leonia presented a stairwell serenade on her violin, and the AHA Flute Choir performed in the main entrance.

AHA Instrumental Music Director Mariann Annecchino promises there is more to come. The various ensembles that perform under her direction share their talents at school concerts and events, and within the community. Her students have achieved multiple honors, including acceptance to the Regional High School Band, the Regional High School Orchestra, and the New Jersey All-State Orchestra.

Music in Our Schools Month® is an annual celebration promoted by the National Association for Music Education to highlight the importance of high-quality music education within schools. The association’s official website ( indicates that this observance began with a March 14, 1973 event sponsored by the New York State School Music Association.

By 1985, the celebration had become a month-long event. At that time, The World’s Largest Concert was launched, with music teachers and students from the United States and Europe gathering at the same time to perform the same music.

Those who wish to show their support for this month’s celebration are invited to visit and download the association’s suggested social media profile picture.

Since 1879, thousands of women have passed through the portals of Academy of the Holy Angels high school, the oldest private girls’ school in New Jersey. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts and athletics. Our goal is to provide each girl with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically, by offering a first –rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity and giving service to others.
