National Honor Society Accepts AHA’s Top Scholars

Demarest, NJ: More than 90 upperclassmen from the Academy of the Holy Angels were inducted into the Regina Angelorum Chapter of the National Honor Society. The ceremony was held at the Academy the evening of May 23.

“With this honor comes great responsibility,” AHA Principal Jean Miller told the inductees, pointing to the organization’s pillars of leadership, scholarship, character, and service. “Leading—setting the example for others. That is not always easy. It is not following the pack. Scholarship—find meaning in the world around you. Character—to behave the same whether you are being watched or not. Knowing the right thing, and doing it. Lastly, service. Service for the love of helping others, not for the praise, not to fill requirements, but simply because there are others out there in the world who are needy in some way and you have something to offer.”

Miller congratulated the honorees, and urged them to share their time, attention, love, and gifts with others.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
