‘Peter & the Starcatcher’ -- Where Pan Began

Demarest, NJ: Discover the fascinating origin stories of Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Tinker Bell, and Mrs. Darling as “Peter and the Starcatcher” unfolds onstage at the Academy of the Angels. This voyage of the imagination will set sail at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9, and Saturday, November 10. A 2 p.m. matinee will be presented Sunday, November 11.

“Peter…” is based on the 2004 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Adapted for the stage by Rick Elice, the play features music by Wayne Barker.

Celebrated Director Katie McSherry-Collins revealed that she selected this “mini-musical” because it allows the versatile thespians in her award-winning theater program to explore new opportunities. She explained that she has entrusted two seniors with key leadership roles. Anijanie Perez of Teaneck is music director and Jenna Cooperman of Tappan, New York, is choreographer.

“They are really rising to the occasion of being leaders, and it’s beautiful to watch them teach this group of very eager actors,” Mc-Sherry-Collins noted.

The 26-member cast includes students from AHA, Saint Joseph Regional High School, and Bergen Catholic High.
Leading actors include Gabrielle Layne of Upper Saddle River as Boy/Peter, the nameless orphan who becomes Pan; Rianna LeHane of Pearl River, New York, as Molly Aster; and Luke Berninger of Saint Joseph Regional High as Black Stache.

While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
