Art Auction to Support Auditorium Renovations at Holy Angels

Demarest, NJ: Prospective bidders are reminded to be in good voice when the Angels in the Arts host their benefit Art Auction on Saturday, September 14th. This informal, educational evening will be held at the Academy of the Holy Angels, 315 Hillside Avenue in Demarest, between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and are available to the public at www.holyangels.org/artauction. Proceeds will benefit renovations to the Academy’s auditorium, which is regularly used by all members of the school community. Read more» 

Holy Angels Volunteers Bring “Sisterly Love” to School in Philadelphia

Demarest, NJ: Each summer since 2011, volunteers from the Academy of the Holy Angels have been winging their way to Philadelphia to help organize Saint Peter the Apostle School for the new academic year. AHA students and their chaperones bring “sisterly love” and a good deal of muscle to Principal Rose Federici, SSND, and her staff. Read more» 

Holy Angels Honored for Outstanding STREAM Program

Student Group Connects with Migrants at Mexican Border

Demarest, NJ: Shackles, crowded shelters, and loss of life are part of the everyday experience of migrants who try to enter the United States of America through the southern border with Mexico. This summer, students from the Academy of the Holy Angels visited Douglas, Arizona, and Nogales, Mexico, to witness these realities firsthand. Read more» 

AHA Students Demonstrate Engineering Projects at NCEA Conference

Demarest, NJ: Selected engineering students from the Academy of the Holy Angels were among the exhibitors invited to the National Catholic Educational Association’s STREAM 3.0 conference in Parsippany. The multi-day event showcased the benefits of an interdisciplinary educational approach that integrates science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and mathematics. Read more» 

Star of the AHA Stage Brings Home the Coveted Metro Award

Demarest, NJ: Rianna LeHane’s magnificent stage presence just earned her a Metropolitan High School Theater (“Metro”) Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. LeHane, a recent Academy of the Holy Angels graduate, was honored for her charming portrayal of Lady Larken in “Once upon a Mattress.” Read more» 

Ashley Hess Earns 2019 Angel Award

Demarest, NJ: Just days after graduating Second in Merit from the Academy of the Holy Angels, scholar athlete Ashley Hess of Cedar Grove received the Angel Award, the most prestigious honor an AHA varsity athlete can attain. Hess received her award at the Parents’ Athletic Association’s Spring Sports Dinner, where she was recognized for four years of success, exceptional dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship in the Academy’s tennis program. Read more» 

Angelic Trio Wins AHA’s Kindness Awards

Demarest, NJ: Janella Osbourne, Emily Nam, and Marissa Dellapi have received the Sister Catherine Green Kindness Award, the Academy of the Holy Angels’ salute to students whose actions and attitudes inspire others. AHA Dean of Students Andréa Beyer accepts nominations from members of the school community, and the administration selects honorees each quarter. Read more»

Demarest, NJ: The Class of 2019 from the Academy of the Holy Angels gathered on May 31st for the Academy’s 139th graduation exercises. This year’s baccalaureate Mass and commencement ceremony were held at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. Read more»

AHA Hosts Representatives from International Universities

Demarest, NJ: Students from the Academy of the Holy Angels take courses abroad and volunteer in numerous nations across the globe. This month, several Angels attended AHA’s International College Night and explored the possibility of earning college degrees outside the confines of the United States. Read more» 

JOY Blossoms as Students Sing at Senior Residences

Demarest, NJ: Teen vocalists from Joining Old and Young recently shared handmade paper flowers and songs from the 1930s through the 1960s at multiple residences for senior citizens. JOY, whose members attend the Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest, performed one-hour concerts at Brookdale Paramus and the Sunrise residences in New City (NY), Old Tappan, and Woodcliff Lake. Read more» 

AHA Seniors Visit Columbia University’s Renowned Surgical Lab

Demarest, NJ: A few weeks before their graduation from the Academy of the Holy Angels, four seniors became the first AHA students to visit the micro lab at Columbia University. This venue is one of the world’s premier microsurgery training labs. Read more» 

Students Earn Accolades for Scores on Spanish National Exam

Demarest, NJ: An impressive array of gold, silver, and bronze medals now belongs to several students from the Academy of the Holy Angels who sat for this year’s national Spanish exam. Demarest, NJ: More than 90 upperclassmen from the Academy of the Holy Angels were inducted into the Regina Angelorum Chapter of the National Honor Society. The ceremony was held at the Academy the evening of May 23. Read more»

Model Congress Allows AHA Juniors to Be Legislators for a Day

Demarest, NJ: Academy of the Holy Angels juniors Camila Correa of Demarest and Katherine Gazzini of Ridgewood seized the opportunity when AHA Social Studies Department Chair Gail Fair told them about the 2019 Model Congress held at Ridgewood High School this month. The students met Representative Josh Gottheimer and learned how bills proceed through congressional committees. Read more»

AHA Freshman Has Nonfiction Piece Published in ‘Scrawl’

Demarest, NJ: Discovering silverfish in the shower may not be pleasant, but Academy of the Holy Angels freshman Natasha Dhanrajani managed to turn the encounter on its ear by seeing the scene as a piece of live art. The result was “Silverfish,” an evocative nonfiction piece that now appears in “Scrawl: Rockland Teens Write 2019.” Read more»

Scholars Earn Medals, Certificates for Work on French National Exam

Demarest, NJ: Ask “Parlez-vous français?” at the Academy of the Holy Angels, and a number of students will respond. This spring, AHA students who have attained a high level of competence in the French language received multiple medals and certificates for their work on the national exam. Read more»

Oxford University Course Is Expressly Made for AHA Students

Demarest, NJ: An adventurous group of students from the Academy of the Holy Angels recently spent a week at Oxford University’s Pembroke College and immersed themselves in a “bespoke” course: one that was tailor-made for them. This is the second spring the critical thinking course was offered. Both times, the curriculum was prepared by AHA English Department Chair Nancy Schneberger. Read more»

Grandparents’ Day: Extending a Tradition of Loving Bonds

Demarest, NJ: Grandparents’ Day remains one of the best-loved of the many traditions observed at the Academy of the Holy Angels. This year, freshmen and juniors invited their esteemed relatives (or those who are like grandparents to them) to school for a morning Mass and classroom visit followed by a special luncheon. Read more»

Cresskill Violinist Is Featured Performer at Juilliard

Demarest, NJ: Internationally acclaimed teen violinist Nayoun Kim of Cresskill was a featured performer in the Juilliard Pre-college Symphony’s May 4th concert. She presented Maurice Ravel’s haunting “Tzigane, Rapsodie de Concert,” under Conductor Adam Glaser. Read more»

AHA’s Italian Students Fare Well on National Exam

Demarest, NJ: Several students from the Academy of the Holy Angels demonstrated their growing mastery of the Italian language by earning honors on the national exam. AHA world language teachers Laura Kraytem and Lisa Betti announced the results. Read more»

AHA’s Latin Students Rank among Nation’s Best Scholars

Demarest, NJ: Latin is alive and well at the Academy of the Holy Angels, where 24 scholars have received honors for their performance on the National Latin Exam. Over 139,000 students from across the United States and 20 foreign countries took the National Latin Exam, and AHA’s scholars proved to be among the nation’s best students. Read more»
