Rachel Jackiewicz Takes Reins of AHA’s College Counseling Office

Demarest, NJ: Rachel Jackiewicz, an experienced counselor, adviser, and student affairs professional, has taken the reins of the Academy of the Holy Angels’ Office of Academic and College Counseling. The OACC’s new director arrived this month with 20 years of experience in higher and secondary education.

She succeeds Dr. Barbara Fallon, who retired this summer after devoting 24 years to Holy Angels.

AHA appears to be a perfect fit for Jackiewicz. As an alumna of an all-women’s college, Jackiewicz said she was drawn to AHA because she appreciates how a single-sex educational setting can empower and motivate women.

A Bergen County native, Jackiewicz grew up in nearby Ridgewood. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marymount College, and a master’s degree in education, with a concentration in counseling and student personnel services, from Fordham University.

During her first year as director, Jackiewicz said her goals include “getting to know the students really well, developing strong partnerships with faculty and parents, and working collaboratively with colleagues.”

Before she joined Holy Angels, Jackiewicz was director of placement and outreach at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Silberman College of Business. She previously served EF Academy, an International Boarding High School, in the areas of academic advising, student support services, and college counseling. At Saint Thomas Aquinas College, she was director of career services, coordinator of the Corporate Mentor Program, academic adviser and instructor, and adviser for the Student Activities Club.

How does this hard-working educator unwind?

“I truly enjoy working out (my stress reliever), having dinner with friends, and watching Chicago PD,” Jackiewicz shared.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
