Sahar Ali-Jenkins to Dance for Rutgers University

Demarest, NJ: Nationally-recognized dancer Sahar Ali-Jenkins of Teaneck has signed with the Rutgers University Dance Team. Ali-Jenkins is a senior at the Academy of the Holy Angels, where she and her peers from the AHA Varsity Dance Team have earned four consecutive national titles in small varsity hip hop.

“At the age of three, my parents changed my life by placing me in my first dance class,” Ali-Jenkins explained, noting that she had previously been dancing through the halls of her home.

“If only I had known that in that first moment of looking at myself in the mirror of my new dance studio that I would be changing my life for the better and discovering a new passion of mine, which has continued for 15 years!”

Ali-Jenkins spent seven years at Five Star Dance in Teaneck before moving to Beyond Dance in Englewood.

This versatile dancer enjoys a variety of dance styles, but has a particular fondness for pom.

“With pom I have the ability to turn and jump as I have always loved while having the opportunity to display a new sense of strength and power in every motion,” she added.

Asked about a possible appearance at the upcoming Olympics, Ali-Jenkins said, “I hope to have the opportunity to dance on the Olympic floor within my next four years as a member of the Rutgers University Dance Team.”

Ali-Jenkins plans to dance to the best of her ability and contribute to the strength of the university’s dance program while pursuing a career in law. She envisions herself updating laws and policies to create a better world.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
