Senior Honored by American Association of Teachers of French

Demarest, NJ: Palak Hazrati has received a 2018 Outstanding Senior in French Award from the American Association of Teachers of French. Since 2003, the AATF has presented this award to a graduating senior who demonstrates excellence in the study of French and an exceptional commitment to the French language and the many cultures where it is spoken.

Hazrati is a Little Ferry resident and a May 2018 graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels. She studied French throughout the four years she attended Holy Angels. She was an officer in the French Honor Society, a member of the French Club, and an active participant in the Academy’s National French Week observances.

Recipients must be non-native French speakers who have completed at least three years of French classes. Honorees must have an A average in French and at least a B average overall. Only current AATF members may nominate students, and only one person per school may be nominated each academic year.

AHA World Language Department Chair Samira Mady nominated Hazrati. Dr. Mady described Hazrati as an organized, responsible person who has a pleasant personality and is always there to help.

“I always nominate students who really show their leadership and commitment academically and in extracurricular activities,” Mady noted.

The AATF has been dedicated to the study of the French language, culture, and literature since the organization was established in 1927. The AATF Outstanding Senior in French Award was launched to motivate students to continue their studies of French as teachers of the French language or as a complement to other professions.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
