Students Earn Accolades for Scores on Spanish National Exam

Demarest, NJ: An impressive array of gold, silver, and bronze medals now belongs to several students from the Academy of the Holy Angels who sat for this year’s national Spanish exam. Students at every level of mastery proved their skills stack up to those of other world language students across the country.

Gold medalists include Grace Flynn of Oradell, Level V; Katherine Gazzini of Ridgewood and Ayanah Taneja of Fort Lee, Level III; Brigid Miller of Pearl River (NY), Caitlin Brannigan of Hillsdale, and Mary Quimbo of Woodcliff Lake, Level II; and Erin Altenbach of Demarest, Zeida Ben-Fredj Lopez of Bergenfield, and Nicole Sinde of Englewood, Level I.

Silver medals were awarded to Maya Sharma of River Vale and Shirley Made of Englewood, Level V; and Kristen Chung of Wyckoff, Sophie Jin of Cresskill, Nina Valente of New Milford, Paulina Yannitsadis, of Fair Lawn, and Juliana Dominguez of North Bergen, Level III. Eunvee “Alexis” Kim of Norwood, Ava Buoncuore of Hoboken, Judianne Meredith of River Vale, Emma DeMarco of South Nyack (NY), Colleen Driscoll of Oradell, Natalie Andreoli and Sarah Onderdonk of Wyckoff, Adriana Santos of Ridgefield, Alexandra Olives of Ridgefield Park, Julia Oakley of Union City, Danielle Patti of Englewood Cliffs, Rebecca Lovatt of Wood-Ridge, and Kimberly Pienkawa of Demarest earned silver for their performance on the Level II exam. Level I silver medalists include Myra Bocage of Chestnut Ridge (NY), Patricia Coleman of New City (NY), Natasha Dhanrajani of Bardonia (NY), Katie Merriam of Tenafly, Olivia Presser of Demarest, Keelin Robbins of Ridgewood, and Isabella Troche of Prospect Park.

AHA’s bronze medalists are Gabriella Ligresti of Montebello (NY), Sarah Folk of Old Tappan, and Isabella Pineda of Palisades Park, Level V; and Jennifer Cooperman of Tappan (NY), Level IV. Level III students who earned bronze medals include Czarina Alfonso of Clifton, Nicole Barbaro of Fort Lee, Amy Cami of Demarest, Samantha Hess of Nutley, Irene Kim of River Vale, Julia Labita of Norwood, Myra Lekic of Englewood Cliffs, Jennifer Marino of Oradell, Corey McLaughlin of Demarest, Audrey Miller of Glen Rock, Sarah Norell and Emily Taufield of Tenafly, Angelina Busetto of Pomona (NY), and Victoria Rocker of Cliffside Park. Level II students who won bronze include Hyerin (Sally) Chung of Closter, Ria Jani of Haworth, Tamara Kim of Demarest, Kaya Simmons of West Orange, Hanga Antal of River Edge, Ariana Layne of Upper Saddle River, Emily Nam of Cresskill, Ashley Thompson of Nutley, Natasha Vafiadis of Englewood, Kendal Williams of Hillsdale, Rachel Bae and Mary Flahive of Harrington Park, Victoria Thomas of Oradell, Jaime Park of Norwood, Suha Patel of Fort Lee, Carmela Alessio of Belleville, Sydni Murado of Union City, Darynne Dela Gente of Oakland, and Deirdre James of West Nyack (NY). Level I bronze winners are Jackie Arbogast of Warwick (NY), Emily Danahy of River Edge, Deanna Frassa of New Milford, Catherine Geraghty of Allendale, Marie Howard of Ridgewood, Hannah Kim of Cresskill, Gian Lee of Englewood Cliffs, Samantha Samimi of Upper Saddle River, Jamie Sung of Norwood, Amanda Bonilla of Bergenfield, and Chloe Hong of Ridgewood.

Students who earned Honorable Mention certificates include Level V students Holly Gibbard of Emerson, Lauren Kim of Closter, Ernestine Klecz of River Edge, Rianna LeHane of Pearl River (NY), Emily McKiernan of Harrington Park, Christie Campomanes-Corrales of Englewood, and Camila Scherrer of Englewood Cliffs. This year’s Level IV honorees are Georgia-Marie Aidoo and Chaiyon Kim of Englewood Cliffs, Emily Stanzione of Maywood, and Leah Sanchez of Upper Saddle River. Certificate winners from Level III are Christina Bagin of Glen Ridge, Lauren Behrens of Moonachie, Catherine Callahan of Tenafly, Bridget Clark of Old Tappan, Shannon Dobres of Bergenfield, Julia Farah of Pearl River (NY), Courtney Hairston of Englewood, Madelyn Holmes of Blauvelt (NY), Esther Lim of Moonachie, Suhyeon Lim of Hillsdale, Nataleen Orangian of River Vale, Nora Pav of Westwood, Eungyo Shin of Harrington Park, Jordyn Solages of Chestnut Ridge (NY), Joanna Hablitschek of Fort Lee, Lana Pontone of Rockleigh, Angelique Corales of Fairview, and Natalie Near of Teaneck. Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County.
