Top Ten: AHA Students Earn Recognition for PSAT Scores

Demarest, NJ: Ten Academy of the Holy Angels seniors have received national recognition for their excellent performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit® Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“This recognition is more than a test score. It represents the dreams, the desires, and the persistent hard work of driven students. It rewards the pursuit of academic rigor for the student and the school community who supports her,” AHA Principal Jean Miller said of this year’s honorees.

Semi-finalists from the Class of 2019 include Kirsten Garino of Oradell, Ashley Hess of Cedar Grove, and Maya Sharma of River Vale, all of whom will now be considered as potential Finalists in the National Merit® Scholarship Program.

Four Angels were named Commended students. Aimee Hannoush of Wyckoff, Maria Hannoush of Wyckoff, Amanda Hawthorne of River Edge, and Timea Papp of Hawthorne will receive letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

This year’s National Hispanic Recognition Program honorees are Athena Cenname of Garnerville, New York; Jillian Busetto of Pomona, New York; and Kym McGowan of Clifton.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
