Student Attends Forum on Women’s Power & Influence

Demarest, NJ: It seems that everywhere Daniella Hernandez goes, she hears that women can change the world. She hears this message at her school, the Academy of the Holy Angels, and had it reinforced at both the 2017 Eleanor Roosevelt Girls Leadership Worldwide program and the 2018 Moves Millennial Forum in New York City.

Hernandez was front and center as the Moves Forum turned the spotlight on improving women’s current and future roles in influential posts. She and her peers enjoyed a full afternoon of discussions at the SUNY Global Center hosted by the State Universities of New York and New York Moves. Attendees heard panelists, featuring women leaders from the corporate world, the United States Army, and other key positions. Discussions topics ranged from how female consumers drive business worldwide to the future of women in science, technology, engineering, and math-based careers.

The event concluded with a red carpet reception.

“It was inspiring to hear how women can use their influence and power to make a difference,” Hernandez said. “It is important for women, especially girls my age, to understand this. I look forward to using the awareness that I gained at this event.”

The Northvale teen was invited to the forum along with several other young women who attended last summer’s Girls Leadership Worldwide program.

GLW is a week-long program for young women that is held at the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill, New York.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. Over time, thousands of women have passed through AHA’s portals. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts, and athletics. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
