Meet Annabel '20

Annabel earned the prestigious Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award for untangling and addressing sensitive social issues. She took a closer look at the migrant experience during a trip to Arizona’s border with Mexico, and enjoys analyzing current events with the members of Angels Awareness. She is active with Journey Toward Justice, an anti-violence organization, and participated in the SSND’s Anti-gun Violence Forum.

A leader of the AHA Diversity Council, Annabel played a key role in the 2019 International Week celebration. Annabel’s original poem, “Pink Is the Strongest Color,” was featured at the 2018 United Nations Day of the Girl! She edits the AHA Voice, and is an award-winning debater. Her varied activities include service as an Angel Ambassador, and two years on the AHA Fencing Team, including one year as team manager. This excellent scholar is a member of the National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society. She is a Sister Nonna Dunphy Scholarship winner, and frequently appears on the Principal’s List in recognition of her excellent GPA. She is active with the school’s animal rights and environmental aid club. Annabel is an accomplished handbell player who performs with the AHA Handbell Choir. She gained entry to Tri-M, a national honor society for musicians. She led the Kairos retreat and the Junior Retreat. While studying at Oxford, she delved into philosophy and public speaking in a bespoke course for AHA students. Annabel has completed AP courses in macroeconomics and U.S. History, and plans to pursue AP studies in literature and composition, art history, statistics, and U.S. government and politics.

What is your favorite book? The Harry Potter series or Jurassic Park; If I'm being completely honest, I don't read that many books and prefer poems, articles, or just anything less lengthy. My favorite poem is probably "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver, and my favorite articles are those published by The NY Times and The AHA Voice.

What is your favorite cafeteria food? Spaghetti tacos (from iCarly) on Fun Food Friday

What is your favorite show to binge watch? Black Mirror, The Office

What language do you take? French (though I am not taking it in senior year)
