Meet Chennie '20

Chennie’s enthusiasm for tennis runs so deep that she is doing her best to share her interest with others. This AHA varsity player is a Bergen County Champion and a New Jersey State Finalist. She has won several USTA tournaments, finished second at the New York Korean-American Tennis Open for girls 16 and under, and took third place at the New Jersey Korea Tennis Open for girls 14 and under.

A few years ago, Chennie resolved that every child should have the opportunity to learn her beloved sport, and founded the GRIT Tennis Clinic. GRIT stands for growth, resilience, initiative, and tenacity, qualities Chennie exemplifies. As program director, she recruited 24 high school varsity players to serve as coaches. Her volunteers have already logged 900+ hours teaching 152 future tennis players. Chennie also works with ACEing Autism, a weekend program that helps children with autism connect with the greater community through tennis. This busy young woman is also an intern at a local orthodontics practice, and takes college-level psychology courses. A leader for her church youth group, she arranges weekly meetings and programs for summer and winter retreats. Chennie is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, the Math Honor Society, and the Science Honor Society. During her junior year, she took AP courses in physics, chemistry, and calculus. She won’t be slowing down any time soon! She will be taking AP Spanish, statistics, biology, and literature during her senior year. This scholar is regularly honored for her excellent GPA. Her many activities include serving as co-president of SADD, and membership on the Dean’s Council and AHA Debate Team. She is a peer tutor for students who seek assistance in algebra, pre-calculus, and Spanish.
