Maya is making the most of AHA’s STREAM curriculum, which allows her to fully explore the sciences and the arts. Along with her sister, Maya founded the Sharma Sisters Duo. Together, they perform concerts for nonprofit organizations, with Maya on the violin. Recently, she helped organize a concert at Spectrum for Living, where she also works on activities with residents. Maya is first violinist for the AHA Orchestra, and a member of the AHA String Quartet, the Academy Chorus, and the Vocal Ensemble. She performs at graduation, Music in Our Schools Month, and at the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s residence in Connecticut. As a freshman, she was inducted into the Tri-M National Music Honor Society. In addition to her musical pursuits, Maya is captain of the AHA Debate Club and president of MEDS, a club for students interested in medical careers. She is a Robotics Club member, and serves as an Angel Ambassador, a chemistry lab tutor, and a Project Greenhouse volunteer. Maya received the Tri-M Outstanding Service Award, and “Volunteer Spotlight,” a Spectrum for Living honor for exceptional volunteers. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta (the National Math Honor Society), earned a Silver Medal for her performance on the National Spanish Exam, and is consistently named to the Principal’s List for her outstanding average. Maya has volunteered with the Special Olympics and the Center for Pain Management. At CPM, Maya collected and analyzed patient data for a research project. In her junior year, she attended the Perry Outreach Program. This summer, she participated in the prestigious Governor’s School for the Sciences. She is currently a National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalist.

“I’ve always valued a broader liberal arts education, and AHA’s one-of-a-kind STREAM program has perfectly suited my desire to pursue a career in the sciences, while simultaneously encouraging my love for the arts. AHA offers a unique high school experience with supportive faculty and a collaborative student body. What makes the Holy Angels community so special is that we all rise together, bringing each other up with each of our successes. I’m so grateful to be part of a family that, together, works toward the betterment of ourselves and our communities.”
