Melina may look familiar. As a member of the national champion AHA Varsity Dance Team, she has received high-profile media coverage, and has performed at multiple public events. She also appeared on WABC-TV’s “Tiempo,” where she told reporter Joe Torres about her experience at the Arizona-Mexico border during the AHA Mission Awareness Process trip. Her commitment to raising awareness of immigration issues won her the #EmpowerUpliftSupport challenge for girls who excel in their communities. She has proven her strength on the varsity track team, throwing shot put, discus, and javelin. Her fortitude is also evident in the classroom, where she is taking Advanced Placement courses in physics, literature, and art history. Melina earned the Bronze Medal on the National Spanish Exam and won the Wellesley College Book Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta (the math honor society), thanks to her high average and exemplary character. She is a Spanish National Honor Society officer, and coordinated that group’s fundraisers to provide aid to Puerto Rico and Haiti. Melina is a leader in Student Council; the school greenhouse, which grows produce for food banks; Equality Now, which strives to halt gender inequality; and Restore, which brings basic necessities to people in need. Melina attended Operation Smile’s international leadership conference in Italy, and serves on the organization’s regional council. As an Angel Ambassador, she interacts with prospective AHA students and their families. She is a Big Sister/Little Sister event coordinator, peer tutor, and retreat leader. Last fall, she visited the United Nations for the International Day of the Girl. Outside of AHA, she has taught dance to children in the Oasis Summer Camp.

“There is truly nothing like being a student at Holy Angels. The past three years have given me life-long friends, strong support systems, and opportunities of a lifetime. Not only has AHA educated me, it has given me confidence in myself and the passions that I have fostered.”
