The Angels Tennis team is definitely one of the powerhouses of Bergen County.  A seasoned team will be returning in the fall and we are continually bringing in new, young talent.  This is a program dedicated to the development of every player regardless of their skill level.  Centered around a strong and growing sense of team camaraderie and having the deepest desire to succeed, we are constantly raising the bar, proving just how rewarding it is to be a member of such a unique high school tennis experience here at Holy Angels.

Year in Review

Angels Varsity Tennis went into the 2017 season with very clear goals that included regaining our Division Championship Title (which was lost last season for the first time in a 7 year streak), reaching the State Sectional Final, and to have no more than 2 regular season losses.

Finishing the season with a final record of 15-3, we met our goal of only 2 regular season losses- one to Northern Highlands and the other to Ramapo. Our third loss came from Kent Place when we played in the State Sectional Championship and fell to a score of 2-3, where our seniors pulled out a great 2nd doubles win. This match came after defeating Pope John in the Quarterfinals and #3 seed Dwight Englewood in a close 3-2 State Semifinal.

This year in the BCWCA County Tournament, we sent all 5 positions to the semifinal round of the tournament - a first for AHA Tennis! Knocking out some of the top teams in each position, we walked away as the Tournament Team Finalists behind Northern Highlands and honored a 1st singles Tournament Champion: Junior, Ashley Hess.

We had an incredible season as a team. Our seniors, Abigail Williams and Isabelle Shea put out the best doubles record we have had to date. Our first doubles duo of the Bellas (Izabella King and Isabella Napolitano) will be back next year after finding a nice rhythm for themselves towards the end of the season. Freshman player, Isabella Darmanin, joined us this year and stepped into the 2nd singles position, where she had big wins against Northern Highlands and Dwight Englewood and played her way to the Bergen County Tournament Finals. Our third singles, Isabelle Asencio, had a remarkable season as well going from a doubles player last year to singles and earned crucial wins against Dwight Englewood and Indian Hills.

Last but not least, 1st singles player, Ashley Hess. Ashley was this year’s Bergen County Champion, State Individual Finalist, The Record’s Player of the Week, and ended with an astonishing record of 27-1 on the season. She was also one of this year’s captains along side senior, Abigail Williams.

This was a season where we met and surpassed many of our team and personal goals, and I could not be more proud of the team this year. We needed to make adjustments coming off of the 2016 season and every girl stepped up and did what was needed to get to where we wanted to be. It was the year of #2; #2 in the County, #2 in the Team State, #2 in the State Individuals- although we were #1 in the United Division with a 6-0 record.
